Boat Parade - Winter Holiday

Boat Parade Information

The Boat Parade will be held Saturday July 4th at 2pm.  The theme will be "Bold Stripes, Bright Stars, Brave Hearts"

Check out the pictures from past parades in the Galleries Section!

Subject: TLA Boat Parade Instructions – 2PM, Sat, July 4

Parade leader – Scott Cunningham will be operating in the lead boat, identified by the blue TLA flag. The lead boat will set the pace and route during the parade.  Will monitor phone/text during the parade at (702) 400-3069 for any issues or questions.

Registration: Registration will be available at Kays (pick up numbers) from June 28, up until 12:00 on July 4th. Last minute entries can register in person with the Parade Leader at the start line prior to 2PM. Boats that don’t register and/or display their number won’t be able to be voted on by the judges and therefore can not receive prizes.

Start Time: 2PM SAT, July 4

Start Location: Vicinity Blue Canoe

Route: Counter-Clockwise around lake. Through the Islands and Mosquito Bay. The parade will end back by Blue Canoe.

Marshalling/Assembly: Will take place in the vicinity of Blue Canoe starting 15 minutes before the parade. Report into the Control Boat (displaying the blue TLA flag) to check in and pick up numbers if needed. Mount your boat number on the shoreside of the boat (so people can vote for your boat). Assemble short of the start line and wait for the parade to begin.

Parade Start: Control boat will signal the start of the parade and then immediately begin movement. Boats fall in behind the lead boat as space allows. Speed will be approx. 5 mph, 100-150’ from shore. Keep boat intervals approx. 3 boat lengths (close enough to communicate with the boat ahead of / behind you if necessary).

Parade end: At the end of the parade stay on site in the vicinity of Blue Canoe so that we can tally the votes, announce the winners, and award the prizes. After that the parade is over and you can depart.

Safety: don’t operate too close to other boats to risk collision. If the situation warrants, slow, stop, or steer to avoid problems. Watch swimmers, pets, tubes, floats, kayaks, and small boats along the way. Watch for shallow water at the two sandbars and through the islands and mosquito bay. If your boat cannot make it through the parade route due to water depth, pull out of line into deeper water and rejoin at the first opportunity.

Mechanical Breakdown/Boat Problem: Pull out of the parade column and allow other boats to pass. If you can resolve the problem in a timely manner, rejoin if possible.

Real Life emergency: Take appropriate action. If necessary, dial 911. Alert parade leader if you need assistance (702) 400-3069.

Bad Weather: Storm:  If the parade is interrupted by a storm the parade marshal may declare an early end to the parade. If this happens boats can return home immediately.

Judging and Awards: The Parade leader will be responsible for passing out judging ballots around the lake and logging the results. Awards will be announced and awarded at the completion of the parade. This will include the Tuscarora Flag, that the 1st place winner can display until the next parade.
